LOCAL SCHOOL CHILDREN GIVEN TASTE OF UNIVERSITY LIFE

MORE THAN 40 school children from across Shropshire were given a taste of Higher Education and the opportunity to study topics from outside the national curriculum earlier this month.
During the Easter break, Harper Adams University College, near Newport, played host to 44 Year 11 and 12 pupils, specially selected to attend by their schools. The pupils were chosen from local primary and secondary schools on the basis of ability.
They took part in a variety of workshops on subjects including animal welfare, business and marketing, crops and crop pests, engineering, land use and waste management and carried out exercises such as water quality testing and studying the skeletons of animals.
The event was part of an initiative organised by Telford & Wrekin Council, aimed at encouraging the development and education of the region's able and gifted children.
